Woolschool - Introduction to Tablet Weaving

DESCRIPTION:
Participants will be introduced to the technique of making narrow bands using four-holed tablets (cards) and a range of patterns from a two-colour warp. All equipment and materials will be supplied, and the tablets will be warped and ready to start weaving. There should be time in the workshop to weave a sample suitable for a bookmark (or two bookmarks if you are a quick weaver!).
AIMS OF WORKSHOP:
For participants to gain an understanding of one form of tablet weaving, including how to warp up, what ‘S’ and ‘Z’ can mean, how to read a pattern, how to start a band, how to turn the tablets and weave with a weft and shuttle, how the positions and turning directions of the tablets can be varied to create different patterns, and how to finish off a band, plus hints and tips for creating bands with neat, parallel edges.
TUTOR’S BACKGROUND:
Kay discovered braiding and narrow bands at a Braid Society Try Braiding Day at Westhope College in 2014. She has since been on a fascinating and enthralling journey of discovery, learning a range of braiding and weaving techniques with skilled practitioners, both in the UK and also in the USA, Japan and Denmark. She now teaches kumihimo and tablet weaving at Braid Society Try Braiding Days around the UK.
